Game 5 – The Astbury Golf Club – 11th June 2023
A tough track at Astbury meant that nobody beat par with Sharon Cartwright coming out on top with 36 points, three points clear of Ian Kyte who took second place on countback from Paul Want.

Game 4 at the challenging Druids Heath Golf Club was won by Ashley who deservedly took home the trophy with an excellent score of 37 points with Steve Price a point behind in second place. Sharon Cartwright snuck into third place on countback.
After Game 2 fell victim to the weather, the weather held out for the Society’s April event and it was won by ‘Captain Scarlet’ Mick Weaver with 39 points. Liam was just a point further back with Ashley Hayward completing the podium with 34 points. January’s winner, Dave Allen, continued his strong start to the year with a creditable 4th.
Chesterton was a very good course for the first event, with some tricky greens, complimented by the staff and catering we received and although chilly, the sun came out and a good day was had by all.
Dave & Phil who were in my group had lip-outs and I am sure there were many others, but the only player who managed a ‘two’ was Paul Hutchinson who took all the rewards.
There was a mixture of scores with a Big Congratulations to Dave who had an eye watering score of 43 pts to win our first trophy, The New Seasons Cup. I was lucky enough to play in the same group and he struck the ball and putted excellently.
At the bottom of the scoreboard there was a battle to who would be our first recipient of our new designed Pink Shirt. As the scores came in, we were calculating back nines on an array of 25pts ……….. and then Bryn came in 😊 who took it in the spirit of the society.
The final event of the year was the Ryder Cup style event between the Brummie Roaders and the Smethwick Enders. The match finished all square meaning that the Brummie retains the trophy they won last year.
Congratulations to Paul Harris and Phil Young for their season awards. Team details and the on course prize winners detailed below.
Another great turn out and we enjoyed great weather and hospitality. There were also some crazy scores on what was not an easy course.
Congratulations to Garry Doyle who took the victory on countback from Phil Young with Stuart Chubb completing the podium.
