The West Bromwich Albion Supporters Golf Society started back in May 2006 GlosterBaggie (Ian Jones), a mega poster on the WBAzone website, stated he was to have golf lessons. 'Glos' is a ski instructor in Gloucester where they have a superb 18 hole golf course and a challenging par 3 - 9 hole course.  The response to this was that Alan Jones Bratt suggested a meet up for a game and possibly organize a golf tournament amongst fellow 'zoners'.

The response was quite startling, with many wanting to play. WBAzone has a great subscriber who lives in Budapest, Hungary & was introduced to supporting Albion via Zoltan Gera signing for us, he writes under the name of Dorvan, and he said he would come over to play, and wanted to meet other subscribers to the 'Zone'.  So on Saturday 2nd September 2006 the very first golf event was held at the Ramada resort Gloucester, AJ-B via his company, Concept Manufacturing Carpet Company Ltd. sponsored the trophies & the event was called The Concept Classic. Dorvan even brought over a trophy called the 'Gera Cup'.  Ironically enough, against all the odds Dorvan was the winner, beating the favourite Adrian Buckley (OxfordBaggie) into 2nd place, Adrian however was presented with the 'Gera Cup'.  Despite the event being played in almost monsoon like conditions, with fierce winds & driving rain, this inaugural event proved a great success, with 18 golfers playing & 24 attending the evening dinner.  This was just the start of things to come…

It was then that a forum was created and a meeting was arranged for Thursday 28th December 2006 at Ombersley Golf Club from which the official WBAsupporters Golf Society was officially launched. We became affiliated to the EGU (English Golf Union) and at that inaugural AGM the constitution was formulated and voted for and carried by unanimous decision.

AJ-B who chaired the 'steering committee' prior to the AGM, had advocated that apart from the comradary of meeting fellow supporters and the excellent Apres Golf, there should be a means to an end regarding any finances that would be in profit at the year end. It was therefore agreed that in each financial year a selected charity and/or the Youth Development at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, would be beneficiary to any surplus funds raised.  Honary memberships were granted to DORVAN (Istvan Sandor), & Glosterbaggie (Ian Jones).
Following this forum AJ-B said he would organize a 'calendar of events' for the first full years activity. This was finalised by end of January 2007 listing events for February, March, April, May, June, July, August & September - a total of 8 events arranged for different parts of the country to try to cater for members who lived outside the greater midlands region. The brief was also to consider those travelling a long distance to play in events, to include food & drink whenever possible in the 'package'. Also to play on some of the better quality, more prestigious, golf courses.

WBAsupporters Golf Society is indeed fortunate to have members from Surrey (who incidentally is a Charlton supporter!! - but attends EVERY event), from Crystal Palace London, from Chesham Buckinghamshire, from Bedfordshire, from Newport Pagnell, from Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, from Gloucester, and more recently from Dover, Kent, and Dublin Republic of Ireland.  The future of the Society is very much dependant on a substantial increase in membership. We are non-political and our golf society is here to welcome anyone who wishes to join - irrespective of their football club allegiance.

Our society is run as a friendly organization to provide pleasureable day's out, we also welcome non-playing members who come along to some of the presentation dinners held after the more prestigeous events we present.

In August 2007 we held the first ever Stephen Haydn Memorial charity golf event at Kidderminster golf club, in support of Cure Leukaemia Charity, this was supported by 21 golfers and 33 who attended the evening dinner & charity raffle & auction. We are so proud to have raised a magnificent sum of £1,100-00 from that event alone, that we now plan to make this an annual event.

In 2008 we plan to incorporate more regional members to arrange events in their areas.  We are also very closely associated with the official Albion supporters club, and it is hoped more of our golf society members will also become supporters club members.
