COURSE INFORMATION - Tucked away in the south west corner of Northampton is the delectable Collingtree Park Golf Club. Being just a two minute drive from junction 15 of the M1 Collingtree Park Golf Course has already enjoyed a rich and distinguished history since it was designed and opened by the two time major winner Johnny Miller in 1990.
The championship golf course has hosted numerous European Tour events including the British Masters in 1995 and 1996 and seven European Senior tournaments.
Given that the championship golf course was designed by a Californian it was to be expected that he’d want to bring a bit of home with him in his design. And Miller certainly did that. This splendid 18 hole golf course is very much of the American ilk. Of the 18 holes nine feature water hazards. The par three 5th is a wonderful little hole that requires precision and a steely nerve and the par five 9th hole will encompasses the ‘risk and reward’ element that makes golf all so wonderful. The signature hole of this golf course is the par five 18th which was once voted one of the best finishing holes in England. You’ll tee off with water running down the left hand side and OB to the right. You’ll drive into a fairway that opens up somewhat and then have to decide whether to ‘take on’ the island green in two or to take your chances by playing a lay up and relying on a short iron. This 6,776 yard par 72 is a lovely golf course, which will challenge golfers of all abilities and aesthetically it wouldn’t look out of place if it was situated in the Golden State itself, and not Northampton.
