We played our ‘Posh Gig’ on Sunday 4th November and I must say we were looked after superbly well by everyone at the club & made to feel most welcome.
Also several members chatted to us & were more friendly than other golf clubs & members I could mention! Despite the early morning deluge the course was in magnificent condition, however I have never before witnessed so many bunkers on a golf course – I believe there are 104 & one stretches across the width of the fairway!! It was indeed a great test of golf. We had 13 players attend which included 3 Guest players. The Breakfast was one of the best we have been served & despite the £52-00 cost for us I have to say it was truly worth every penny – indeed the comments from everyone at the end were full of praise, so much so we were asked to see if we can play again next year.
Anyway here are the results:-
Winner – Julien Furnival (Guest) (34 points)
2nd – Angus Groom (33 points on countback)
3rd – Tim Higgs (33 points)
20+ Handicap Winner – Angus Groom (33 points)
Longest Drive – Simon Humphries
Nearest The Pin – Bob Julier
Pink Shirt – Martin Grange
There were no winners of the 2’s competition.
The player who actually scored the most Stableford points (35) was another guest, Simon Humphries, who had just returned from Australia. Unfortunately, our society rules state that for a guest to qualify for a win, they must have an official UK CDH Handicap number. Simon only has an Australian one so could not be declared the winner, although he does intend to become a member in the New Year.
